Obituary for Josephine C. Ottomano

Josephine C. Ottomano of Weston passed away Nov. 6, 2016 at home in the company of her family. Born in New York City, Josephine was the youngest child of Arthur and Mamie Cognato. She graduated from Manhattan High School, and married Gill Ottomano when he returned from WWII having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. The couple settled on Lyons Plains Road, where they raised a family and lived together for 57 years until Gill's passing in 2005. Josephine continued living independently in the family home, and on May 20th celebrated her 90th birthday at an outdoor party attended by family and friends.
A founding family of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Weston, Josephine served as an original member of the Ladies Guild, and stayed active in church through prayer groups, bible study and social events.
When her youngest child reached school age, Josephine worked as administrative assistant to the school lunch director for Weston Schools, and thereafter provided bookkeeping services for municipal government offices until her retirement. Rather than slowing down, Josephine focused on providing love, support and care for her three grandsons and four great grand children, all residing within Fairfield County.
Josephine is survived by her daughter Ann Johnson (George Seganos) of Bridgeport, son Peter (Kristine) of Weston, grandchildren David Johnson (Tricia) of Trumbull, Peter Johnson (Lauren) of Shelton and Jason Ottomano, in his third year at Cornell Law School, great grandchildren Sean and Travis Johnson of Trumbull, Colton and Oakley Johnson of Shelton. She was predeceased by her husband Gill, parents and brothers Stephen Cognato and Thomas Cognato.
The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home 210 Post Road East, Westport, CT on Friday November 11, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM.
